WCEE’s Lunch & Learn Series presents

The Post-COVID Oil and Natural Gas Climate Agenda

Concerns over how the changing climate will impact the oil and gas industry have become front and center for many investors and corporate managers. Some oil and gas companies have set aggressive climate-related goals and begun planning for how their companies will adjust to changes in product demand, regulatory and policy agendas, and the physical impacts of climate change.

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a steep drop in fuel demand at a time when geopolitical and other factors have also created economic strains in the industry. Join WCEE for a discussion with experts on industry climate objectives to discuss how corporate climate commitments and plans for climate-related risk management will evolve (or not) as a result of the pandemic and its market and operational impacts.

Speakers:
▪ Lauren Coughlin, Climate and ESG Policy Advisor, American Petroleum Institute

About our speakers:

Lauren Coughlin is a Climate and ESG policy advisor at the American Petroleum Institute (API), the only national trade association representing all facets of the natural gas and oil industry. She provides analysis for member company representatives of the API Climate Committee on GHG emissions reduction initiatives, including public-private partnerships, and on government policies to address the risks of climate change, such as clean energy tax policies. Previously, Lauren was a Refining Policy Advisor. She staffed committees and administered safety programs that encouraged the sharing of effective refinery practices and safety improvement benchmarking, and she led communication and educational programs on downstream issues. Her former portfolio included process and occupational safety, fire protection (including firefighting foam issues, e.g. PFAS), and transportation policies such as the Renewable Fuel Standard and electrification incentives. Lauren received her B.A. in political science and social science from Troy University and Master of Public Policy at the George Washington University with a focus on regulatory and environmental policy.

Heidi Keller joined BP America as a Director of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Advocacy & Policy in 2018. She is responsible for advocacy in BP’s Washington DC office on health, safety and environmental issues, before key agencies such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the Pipeline Hazardous Materials Safety Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Prior to BP, Heidi spent three years at the American Petroleum Institute where she was a Policy Advisor on Downstream and Midstream issues focusing on process safety, occupational health and safety and pipelines.  Previously, Heidi was a Legislative Assistant for Senator Carl Levin advising on energy and environmental issues.  She began her career in the federal government with the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration working for both the National Ocean Service and NOAA’s Chief Financial Officer.  Heidi has a B.S. in Environmental Science from the University of Vermont and a M.S. in Energy Policy & Climate from Johns Hopkins University.
