Energy and Environmental Organizations

 

WCEE Leadership Advisors invites you to join us for our annual event on women on boards. Our distinguished panel of experienced women leaders will discuss:

Where things stand. What do the data and trends on board diversity tell us?

How board diversity impacts the bottom line. What do we know about how companies with gender-diverse and racially diverse 
   boards 
perform?

The path to board service. What do typical paths look like? What can less typical paths look like?

Nuts and bolts of board recruitment. How are board members identified? What does board recruitment look like, particularly in the  
  energy and environment sector? How do boards assess how their needs and candidates’ leadership abilities in the recruitment process?

 

Time will be reserved at the end for questions from participants.

  • Jill Klein, Interim Dean and Executive in Residence, American University School of Professional & Extended Studies, and a driving force behind multiple women-in-leadership groups, including 2020 Women on Boards.

  • Britt Ide, President, Ide Energy & Strategy and member of the Board of Directors of NorthWestern Energy, a vertically integrated, gas and electric utility.

  • Hope Brown, Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer, Calvert Research and Management.

PANELISTS' BIOS

 JILL KLEIN
A recovering CIO with industry experience in banking and consulting, Jill discovered a whole new passion after transitioning to a career in academia in 2002 when she joined American University’s Kogod School of Business faculty as an Executive in Residence in Information Technology and Analytics.

Professor Klein especially values her work advocating for gender-diverse corporate boards. Since its inception in 2010, the Women in Technology’s efforts has been guided by Jill, along with The Leadership Foundry’s Advancing Women to the Corporate Boardroom annual study. She also serves as an advisor on The Leadership Foundry curriculum, serves as the DC Co-Chair of 2020 Women on Boards and is a member of Leadership Greater Washington. Jill’s prior employers include JP Morgan, Riggs Bank, IBM, The Advisory Board, and her own IT consulting firm. Jill earned a BA from Cornell University and an MBA from American University and serves as a Trustee at Pitzer College.

 


BRITT IDE

Britt Ide serves on the Board of Directors of NorthWestern Energy (NYSE: NWE), a natural gas and electric utility. She also serves on the Advisory Boards of Reactive Technologies Limited, a UK-based energy tech company and of 3Degrees, a B Corp that helps companies (including Apple, eBay, and Lyft) meet their climate goals. Britt’s nonprofit board service includes the DC-based Coalition for Green Capital, which creates green banks across the world to leverage public funding with private and philanthropic investment for climate solutions.

Britt has over 25 years of experience as an engineer, lawyer and business leader. As President of Ide Energy & Strategy, Britt consults on energy, sustainability, climate change and ESG. She was appointed by the US Secretary of Energy as an Ambassador for the Women in Clean Energy C3E (Clean Energy, Education and Empowerment) program.

Britt previously served as the independent Chair of the Board of Directors of PCS Edventures (OTC:PCSV), that sells experiential STEM education tools. Britt holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, an M.S. in Environmental Engineering, and a Juris Doctor. She is an experienced facilitator of solutions and has a Harvard Certificate in Mediation and is a NACD Board Leadership Fellow. Britt is passionate about increasing board diversity and women’s leadership roles. She coaches female Aspiring Corporate Directors through the Athena Alliance.

 


HOPE BROWN

Hope Brown joined Calvert Research and Management in 2016 as Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer. She is responsible for all aspects of the firm’s compliance program including the development and administration of the policies and procedures and the oversight of the primary service providers. She has worked in the financial industry since 1995, and has experience in mutual fund, investment adviser and broker-dealer compliance as well as risk management and vendor management and oversight.

Prior to joining Calvert, Hope was associated with Wilmington Trust Investment Advisors, Inc. where she served as Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer for the Wilmington Funds. Prior to that, she spent five years as an Assistant Vice President, Risk Management and Compliance Lead Manager, at T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. Hope is a member of the Investment Company Institute Chief Compliance Officer and Investment Advisers Committees, and the National Society of Compliance Professionals. She is on the board of the Montgomery County Green Bank, where she is chair of the Governance Committee. Hope is also a member of the National Society of Compliance Professionals.

Hope graduated cum laude with a BA in English from the University of Maryland, College Park. Hope is passionate about advancing diversity, inclusion and equity for women and people of color. She is actively involved in her firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Council and the co-lead of her firm’s multicultural employee resource group. Hope is also the Chair of the National Society of Compliance Professional’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

 

GABRIELLA SERRATO

Gabriella Serrato is the Director of Operations & Founding Executive for Beyond Board. Beyond Board is a highly curated and exclusive community of board members and board eligible executives with a mission to bring more diversity to the boardroom.

Prior to Beyond Board, Gabriella focused on diversifying the tech sector by placing technical talent in leadership positions throughout the SoCal area.

She found her love for the startup space working for the Los Angeles Dodgers Accelerator, supporting some of the most innovative companies in sports technology. In addition, she worked for a variety of Los Angeles based technical companies as an Operations Director and Technical Product Manager focusing on infrastructure, internal and external processes, product, and human capital.

Her main mission now is how to diversify the boards of the most influential and impactful companies in the public and private sectors.
