Women Redirecting the Corporate Board

The Women in Leadership (WIL) committee of the Women’s Council on Energy and the Environment (WCEE) invites you to celebrate the passion and vision of women leading the movement to increase the percentage of women on corporate boards. 

This movement is one of the most recognized challenges in unlocking the talent of women to improve the economic and social performance of business and industry. The movement is global -- organizations worldwide are actively exploring various outreach and advocacy activities to raise awareness in the corporate world. This WCEE WIL luncheon event will celebrate the women who are at the intellectual and organizational forefront of the movement to place women on corporate boards. 

Robin Cantor, President of WCEE and Managing Director of BRG LLC will moderate the panel which includes:

Ms. Malli Gero is the Co-founder and President of 2020 Women on Boards.  Before launching 2020 Women on Boards, Ms. Gero had a long career in marketing communications and public relations. She was principal of Gero Communications, a boutique PR firm founded in 1985, specializing in B2B, non-profit and hospitality sectors, and worked as an account executive for public relations agencies in New York and Boston.  Ms. Gero was appointed to the Mayor's Commission on Women in June 2014 and serves on the board of More Than Words, an innovative social enterprise. She is past chair and president of the Coolidge Corner Theatre Foundation in Brookline, MA.

Dr. Laura Tyson is a Professor and Director of the Institute for Business and Social Impact at the Berkeley Haas School of Business.  She served as Dean of London Business School from 2002-2006 and as Dean of Berkeley-Haas from 1998-2001. Tyson was a member of the US Department of State Foreign Affairs Policy Board and a member of President Obama’s Council of Jobs and Competitiveness and the President’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board. She served in the Clinton Administration as the Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers (1993-1995) and as Director of the National Economic Council (1995 – 1996). She is a member of the Board of Directors of Morgan Stanley, AT&T, CBRE Group Inc. and Silver Spring Networks. She is an economic advisory board member of the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation. She is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Women’s Empowerment.

Ms. JoAnn Cavallaro is the President of ION, a national consortium to increase the number of women appointed to corporate boards.  She is the immediate past president of The Boston Club, the largest executive women’s membership organization in New England and a senior member and former chair of the Corporate Board Committee a pioneering group of women advocating to get more women on boards since 1997.  After a corporate career in the telecom and broadband industries where she served in senior executive roles at eVisioner, Inc., Charter Communications, Century Communications, MediaOne, and SNET/ATT, Ms Cavallaro launched and is principal of DeCava Consulting & Advisory Services.  She serves on the boards of WomenLEAD Inc. and Coastal Soundings., and she is a former trustee of the Board of Women in Cable & Telecommunications.  Ms. Cavallaro was recently honored as one of Boston’s Most Influential Women by the Women of the Harvard Club.
